Welcome to the island of Roemoe - one of Denmark's most fascinating nature
areas situated almost 10 kilometres out into the sea at the rim of the
roaring North Sea and the life-giving Jutland Wadden Sea.
Roemoe
has only 850 permanent residents, but on a nice summer day this number of
course increases by several thousands. Owing to the magnificent nature and
the great wilds - more than 90% of the island is pure nature - and one of
Europe's widest and finest beaches, you can always find a quiet place.
A
causeway links the largest island in the Wadden Sea to the mainland. The
island is just a charming ferry ride away from the German island of Sylt.
On the
west of Roemoe is one of the very finest beaches in Europe, and you can
drive your car right onto the sand.
On the
eastern side is one of the largest “pantries” for birds in Europe. Here, you
can join guided nature rambles and see the countryside as you have never
seen it before. Just 10 km from Roemoe is the charming town of Skærbæk, with
plenty of luxury shops. Naturally, you can also shop in Lakolk Shopping
Centre on the western side of Roemoe.

Bathing tips:
- Learn how to swim and dive before you go in
- Never swim on your own
- Swim only where permitted
- Never go into water deeper
than your waist
- Only dive in where it´s deep enough
- Only swim parallel with the
shore
- Never swim after drinking or taking drugs
- Come out before you get too cold
Watch out for rip currents!
Unlike undertows, rip currents are shallow water processes that do not pull
a person under. They form when water, piled against the shore, begins to
return to deeper water. Typically, strong wind and swell waves push water
over a sandbar allowing excess water to collect. Eventually, the excess
water starts to return seaward through low areas in the sandbar, "ripping"
an opening.
Near the beach, rip currents are narrow (30-60 feet wide) with increasing
width as they extend up to 1000 feet offshore. The velocity of the water can
be as high as 5 mph, which is faster than an Olympic swimmer. Since rip
currents are NOT undertows, you can be pulled away from the shore but not
pulled under the water. The most
common mistake drowning victims make is to panic and try to swim directly
toward the shore. Even the best Olympic swimmers are not able to
successfully swim toward shore in the strongest rip currents.
Know how to swim
-
Remain calm. If caught in a
rip current remember it will not pull you under
-
Swim out of the current. Since
the currents are relatively narrow, you can escape the flow by swimming
parallel to the shore until you break free, then swim diagonally toward
the shore. Always swim
after the highest waves - here ist the water lowest.
-
Float if you cannot swim out
of the current. Float until it dissipates, then swim diagonally toward the
shore or float and summon the beach patrol by waving your hands.
-
Use a flotation device if you
attempt to rescue someone.
Do not swim:
In harbours, near jetties, breakwaters and fishing-net stakes - or in
strong currents, in marshes, bogs, lakes, ponds and gravel pits. The water
is always very cold just below the surface.
Anywhere overgrown with weeds. |

Our holiday cottage,
Bolilmark, Roemoe |
To the chimney oven:
-
Newspaper
-
Small wood
-
Wood
-
Briketten
Chimney oven tip:
When it is cold smoke can occur in the room.
Debt to it is the cold chimney.
Do this: Take some newpaper (6 - 8 Stk) - jam
it and take and push it back in the woodburning stove - and evt.
Anzüngsblokken. Then small woodpieces on the top. The valve the
first half hour keep completely open thereby good passage is.
Never use gasoline!
Do not fill the chimney oven completely with wood.
By extreme winds or stormy weather it may not be
possible to use the woodburning stove, as the smoke is pressed back
into the chimney.
Importantly
... is however that you use dry wood
At the beach no firewood may be collected, because it can
contain salt, which makes the chimney oven broken.
The woodburning stove often contains ashes on arrival.
This is due to the fact that the former tenant of the house used the
woodburning stove and left the hot ashes in the stove. Always leave the
hot ashes in a closed stove rather than in an uncontrolled spot near the
house.
Questions:
Can I fire in my chimney oven also with coal?
NO
! Only with wood, charcoal briquette or brown coal
briquette.
Can I leave the chimney oven alone, after I made fires?
Yes If the fire o
burns well, nothing can actually happen, if the oven door
is correctly closed.

EMERGENCY CALL -
Ambulance -Fire-brigade - Police.
|
Accidents and illness-112
|
Accidents and illness-112 Dial 112 in any emergency requiring an
ambulance, the fire brigade or the police.
Examples:
- You have been involved in or have witnessed a serious road accident
- You notice a building on fire.
By acute illness, traffic accidents or fire you can always call the alarm
center by dialling the alarm number 112 from fixed phones, including
payphones, or mobile phones. Free of charge
Remember to tell where you are.
What happens when you call 112?
A specially trained operator will answer your call. Depending on the
country, the operator will either deal with the request directly or transfer
you to the most appropriate emergency service.
Operators are increasingly able to answer 112 calls in more than one
language, which is especially important for people calling 112 while abroad.
Give your name, address, telephone number. It is necessary to
identify callers to avoid confusion – the same incident may already have
been reported by a number of people.
Do not hang up if you call 112 by mistake! Tell the operator that
everything is OK. Otherwise, emergency assistance may have to be sent out to
check there is no problem.
